BRADBURN, Frank John COSSACK 1949 to 1951. Petty Officer, DSM. TASI. Joined RN in 1927 and served until 1953. Also served in IMPREGNABLE, EMPEROR OF INDIA, EAGLE, EAGLE, WOLFHOUND, BULLDOG, ASHANTI, WANDERER, PEMBROKE, OSPREY, ST. ANGELO and NEPTUNE. Whilst serving in WOLFHOUND as a Leading Seaman HSD U-523 was detected and sunk, followed by U-305 on 17/1/44, both in the North Atlantic. Was awarded DSM, presented by King George VI at Buckingham Palace. Was Flotilla TASI whilst in COSSACK. Due to leave the R.N. in 1950 but was retained for an extra 18 months for the Korean War. On leaving the ship, Captain V.C. Begg, Captaim (D)offered Frank the manager's job at a mineral bottling plant in Hong Kong. Frank declined.

Joined as a Boy 2nd Class at ST.GEORGE (Isle of Man) on June 1942 where he met Beryl, his future wife, the daughter of one of his instructors. Leaving ST. GEORGE he the spent 3 years in the BLACK PRINCE, joining as a Boy 1st Class and leaving as an Acting Leading Seaman. Other ships were DRAKE, PEMBROKE, GANGES, PADSTOW BAY, SHEFFIELD and BROADSWORD. On leaving COSSACK in 1955 he returned to UK for discharge after 12 years continuous service. Died 25/6/2006.

COSSACK 1949. Petty Officer (AA2). Captain of the Quarterdeck. Returned to UK on Troopship SS DUNERA. Joined RN as a Boy at GANGES in Feb 1937 from where he joined DRAGON in 1938. Then served in ASHANTI (rated Ordinary Seaman in Nov 1939) and was at the THERIS disaster. Joined HALCYON in Dec 1940 taking part in the Dunkirk evacuation. Was in NIGER from 1943 to 1944, then in MEYNELL and rated Able Seaman. Was rated Leading Seaman during service in TRACKER from 1944 to 1945 and was on Russian convoys. On course in EXCELLENT later in 1945 and rated Petty Officer (AA2) on completion. Served in FULLERTON from 1945 to 1946, then GANGES as an Instructor. After a short spell in MANXMAN was drafted to TAMAR from 1948 to 1949 before joining COSSACK. Back in UK at the end of 1949 he served in the Reserve Fleet at Harwich and in BROADSWORD until Feb 1952 when he transferred to PEMBROKE for discharge to shore. Norman died 9/1/2008 and was buried in Dovercourt.
